Is Salary deduction is right for late coming ?
Dear All,

In My office the management is cutting salary for late coming also. If an employee is coming 15 or 20 min late daily for 1 week then 1/2 day salary they will deduct. If person is coming 1/2 an hour late for 4 days then 1/2 day salary will be LOP. Is it not that there is always a grace period of at least 10 to 15 min. And if someone crosses grace period then it comes under late coming.

Employee's are expected to adhere to office timings. A grace time of 15 minutes is permitted after which it will be treated as “Late – Coming”. This is limited to 3 late – marks ever month. For every late – coming thereafter, employee's attendance will be considered as 'half working day' i.e. ½ day Leave Without Pay (LWP).

If an employee reports for duty 2 hours after the commencement of business hours, it will be treated as half day. If an employee leaves office more than two hours before closing time., it will be treated as half day & it should not exceed more than three occasions in a month. Leave application form to be filled while availing such occasions.

Rules r rules afterall and everyone who require to be work in the organization then should have to follow the prescribed rules.
Late coming can be considered only once or twice in a month if and when there is appropriate reason, but when it passes the step of 2 then it will be habitual on the part of employee. So, such a type of habitual misconduct should not be endured at any cost.
Grace period has to be allowed to the extend and upto 10 minutes only. But it doesn't mean that one should come every day with in the grace period.
More than 3 times late coming should be warned in writing; even after the occasion one started to keep it continue then show cause notice shall be followed and then u can proceed for punishment.
